Deloitte: Techtrends & What You Need to Know

Deloitte: TechTrends & What You Need To Know are the talk and workshop organized by Sunway Analytics Society and Sunway Tech Club in collaboration with Deloitte Consulting SEA. The purpose of the events is to expose Sunway University College students to how the latest technologies are currently driving global commerce by utilising software applications and integrated systems while achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 Quality Education. The workshop was also designed for students to enlighten their experience by providing valuable opportunities for utilising coding to solve various problems throughout their projects.

Deloitte is a globally-recognized firm providing industry-leading audit and assurance, tax and legal, consulting, financial advisory, and risk advisory services to nearly 90% of the Fortune Global 500 and thousands of private companies worldwide, including Malaysia.

The speakers of the talk and workshop are Mr Andrew Goh, Director of Technology Strategy and Transformation at Deloitte Consulting, and Mr Goh Yuen Fei, Director, Senior Manager of Core Business Operations and Financial Services at Deloitte Consulting. At the beginning of the events, an opening speech was conducted by the emcee of Sunway Analytics Society, and a brief introduction of the speakers, Mr Andrew Goh and Mr Goh Yuen Fei.

Next, Ms Chen Ling Hong, Talent Acquisition Senior Specialist (Campus Recruitment) at Deloitte Consulting, took over for an ice-breaking session which also served as an introduction to Deloitte Consulting.

During the talk, Mr Andrew Goh shared about how rapidly technology is evolving in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and how that affected Deloitte’s nature as a firm and its operations here in Southeast Asia. During the workshop, Mr Andrew Goh and Mr Goh Yuen Fei talked about Deloitte's differentiators including being the global leader in consulting practice, scale and scope, industry expertise, and cutting-edge offerings. The workshop then proceeded with an individual coding challenge that involved JavaScript and Java programming skills to broaden the participants’ horizons in solving various problems that come up throughout their projects. In addition, the workshop aims to provide employment opportunities to recent graduates or pre-interns by acting as a prioritized application.

By the end of both events, the speakers were delighted to introduce the career opportunities offered by Deloitte Consulting and share their experiences and knowledge with the participants. The students participated actively in the Q&A session by enquiring on a myriad of topics ranging from the post-pandemic trends in the industry to how the speakers would approach problems on consulting. After that, the Sunway Analytics Society’s emcee concluded both events with a quick photo session to commemorate the occasion.

The highlight was that participants gained insights into how technology was shaping the world in 2022, turning industry trends to data analytics and artificial intelligence, which has automated many facets of our daily life. The speakers listed several technology projects in the current market, such as eWallets, digital banks, and mobile banking, which triggered much of the student's interest.

Overall, the attendees were pleased with both of the events. Participants appreciated the talk and workshop sessions conducted by Mr Andrew Goh and Mr Goh Yuen Fei while enjoying the content prepared by the speakers, such as the technology stack.
