The Department of Biological Sciences' Industrial Networking Event (iNET2022) - a Hit with Students and Alumni

The Department of Biological Sciences (DBS) organised an Industrial Networking event called iNET2022 from 26 to 28 October 2022. iNET2022 contained a series of events that aimed to provide students and alumni with the best insights into the needs of the Malaysian life sciences industry and to showcase the breadth and depth of Malaysia's medical and life sciences landscape.    iNET2022 kicked off with a panel forum involving six biomedical and life science leaders on 26 October, discussing the Bioscience Landscape in Malaysia. This was followed by a Meet & Mingle session on 27 October and an alumni sharing session on 28 October.

The Panel Discussion on the Bioscience Landscape in Malaysia opened with a speech from Sunway Education Group CEO Prof Dato' Dr Elizabeth Lee. It discussed various topics, including: • How well are the market valued and science graduates incentivised in Malaysia? • What skills do employers value in graduates? • Why do females make up the minority of the decision-makers in the industry? • Insights into the life of a bioentrepreneur; and • Whether the higher education system adequately prepares graduates for a career in the industry

The School of Medical and Life Sciences is grateful to the panelists: Prof Leong Chee-Onn of AGTC Genomics, Lim Su Wen of Oncode Scientific Sdn Bhd, Huan Ung of IBX ProTech, Fabian Cheong Wei Kit of Naluri - Employee Health & Wellness, Rosziana Roslan of Roche Malaysia and Ooi Ghee Chien of Cryocord Sdn Bhd for sharing valuable insights and their experiences! The students certainly benefited from the collective wisdom of this illustrious and diverse panel on that day.   Day 2 of iNET 2022 was the Meet and Mingle session which involved 18 companies and NGOs across the Malaysian biosciences industry that participated in the meeting with interested students. The students and visitors had the opportunity to hear directly from people in the field about the different industry opportunities and experience the true breadth of the biosciences industry.

Thanks to the representatives from Roche Malaysia, Boehringer Ingelheim, Novo Nordisk Malaysia, DMS MedHealth, Novotech Malaysia, Luye Pharma Group, Oncode Scientific Sdn Bhd, Naluri - Employee Health & Wellness, AGTC Genomics, SuperDNA, Xploregaia, ECRI Asia Pacific, DOC2US, Cryocord Sdn Bhd, Innolatex Malaysia, ScienceVision Sdn Bhd, Everlife-Chemopharm Group, and Thermo Fisher Scientific Malaysia for their kind support and participation of this event!   Overall, the event was very successful as it attracted many students, alumni, and academic staff.
