Ng Swee Lynn

Ng Swee Lyn graduated from Sunway University’s Business Studies programme. Upon completing her degree, she landed a job with Shopee Malaysia as an E-Commerce specialist. Having done so, she feels that her time at Sunway was instrumental to her career trajectory.

“This degree has been crucial in me developing a profound understanding of customers and their preferences, enabling me to implement effective business strategies that cater to their needs and drive business growth.” Swee Lyn also feels Sunway University’s positive relationship with brands gave her a foothold in securing her first job.

Nevertheless, the lessons learned from the course are not just about one’s career or financial security. The course aims to produce students that positively impact the world. Swee Lyn said, “This programme provides students with essential knowledge for identifying consumers' needs and wants, enabling them to create products or services that benefit society. Moreover, it empowers graduates to continuously explore opportunities to leverage trends and establish impactful brand positioning that resonates with consumers.”

She noted that the course curriculum also emphasises the importance of positively contributing to society by considering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring that companies operate responsibly and impact society positively.

The young E-Commerce specialist also recalls a fond relationship with the staff at Sunway University. “The dedicated lecturers have played a pivotal role in shaping my career. They encouraged me to challenge norms and consistently question the feasibility of ideas, all while leveraging various marketing elements." I cultivated a strong confidence in public speaking with the various opportunities available at Sunway Business School. It was an honour to participate in the Professional Speaker's Development Programme, where I had the chance to address 200 students and raise awareness about public speaking while still a student.”

When asked to summarise the skills she gained from the programme, Swee Lyn felt that the most significant was her entrepreneurial skills. “Throughout our studies, our lecturers consistently encouraged us to think innovatively and to adopt agility.”

She also gained leadership skills by taking on roles in the Sunway University Toastmasters Club and Sunway University Chinese Cultural Society. “Taking on these leadership roles taught me that true leadership involves empowering others to grow." She also participated in seminars and talks like AMEU and the Jeffrey Cheah Speaker Series, which significantly broadened her horizons.

In retrospect, Ng Swee Lyn is grateful for the abundant opportunities provided by Sunway University, moulding her into a proud alumna who embodies confidence, social responsibility, and entrepreneurial prowess at Shopee Malaysia.
