Research Overview

The School engages in active research endeavours, in support of the University’s strategic ambition to attract significant research funding both internally and externally. In 2018 and 2019, research groups from the School successfully attracted over RM4.5mil in external research grants, including from Ministry of Education Malaysia - Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), Long Term Research Grant Scheme (LRGS), and Volkswagen Foundation International Grant. Also, they secured more than RM1.3mil worth of internal research grants from Sunway University.

Our academics contribute significantly to research scholarship through publications as well as refereed journals and conference papers like the high impact Web of Science and Scopus. In 2018 and 2019, the School has published over 400 papers in high-indexed journals and more than 50 conference papers.

Many of our academics have won research awards such as Gold medal at ITEX as well as Best Paper and Best Oral Presentation at various conferences. Notable mentions include Professor Kheireddine and Professor Saidur who stand proud among only 0.1% of the world's researchers across 21 research fields who have earned the exclusive distinction as the world’s most influential researchers with their consecutive wins in 2018 and 2019 as the Highly Cited Researchers for field and year in Web of Science. In 2019 Associate Professor Dr Lau Sian Lun has been awarded Jeffrey Cheah Scholars-in-Resident at Gonville & Caius College - University of Cambridge.
