Lab Apprentice

Aim: Support on-going projects.    
Description:    
This is a perfect position for those who wants to work in a laboratory setting and gain valuable research experience in preparation for graduate or future careers.

General Requirement

The post is opened to all students doing or finished their undergraduate or postgraduate study or a researcher from a research institution. Full master scholarship is also available for excellent candidates. This post is subject to approval from Research Office. Applicants should have at least a good programming skill in any language plus the willingness to learn. The applicant may have mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative) research skills and expertise. Applicant is expected to demonstrate dedicated and independent research ability throughout the entire project. If you have any queries regarding the vacancy please contact @email.

Person-in-Charge

 

Professor Yap Kian Meng is a senior member of the IEEE and a member of IET. He has spent 18 years working in sensor & haptic technology, data networks (IT), telecommunications and electronic control system for machinery. He is the principal investigator for over 18 projects supported by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), ERGS, MCMC, Lancaster University (UK), PPRN, industrial partners and Internal Grants. He has also obtained travel grants from the British Council and Harvard Travel Grant for research collaboration activities in the UK and US, respectively. His current research interests include sensor technology, touch, smell, audio, drones, sensing/tracking, robotics, IoT and AR/VR. Dr Yap heads Sunway University’s H.O.M.E. Lab (House of Multimodal Evolution) and Research Centre for Human-Machine Collaboration (HUMAC), which aim to be the nation’s main technology hub and to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable development e.g. SDG3, 4, 8, 9 and 11.

 

Graduated PhD

 

Eu Kok Seng - Kok Seng currently a senior lecturer at Sunway University. He started his PhD degree from Sunway University in 2012 and graduated in 2018. He had completed his master degree and BEng degree from Sheffield Hallam University. His interest areas of research are robotics, automation system and control.


Chit Su Mon - Chit Su Mon is Doctor of Philosophy (Computing) at Sunway University under the supervision of Professor Dr.Yap Kian Meng. She has completed her BSc (Hons) Computer Science (Information Technology) and MSc in Networking and Mobile Systems also from Sunway University. Her research interests focus on Human Computer Interaction, Information Systems in Assisted Learning, Augmented Reality, Virtual Learning, Haptic for Visually Impaired and Olfactory for visually impaired. She has completed her Master degree with the research titled “Investigation in virtual objects learning by using Haptic Interface for Visually Impaired children”. Her current research focus on olfactory assisted learning for visually impaired.

Lim Woan Ning - Lim Woan Ning is currently Senior Lecturer at the School of Science and Technology, Sunway University, teaching computing subjects. She acquired her Master of Engineering (Electrical) and Bachelor (Hons) of Computer Science from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. She has vast experience in the IT industry, working in several multinational organisations over a span of ten years such as Shell IT International, DHL Asia Pacific IT Services and Standard Chartered Scope International. She is passionate about teaching and constantly strives to contribute to the education industry by sharing her industrial IT consultancy and project management experiences. Her research interests include innovative teaching and learning methods, mobile computing, machine learning and image processing. She is involved in a few research grant projects such as the Sunway internal grant and the MOHE Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS).

 

Current MSc

 

Liew Jia Jun - Liew Jia Jun is a Research Assistant at Sunway University in focus research with H.O.M.E lab. He has completed his Diploma in Information Technology and currently completing his Bsc in Information Technology from Sunway University. His interest in mechatronics and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) has drawn him to involve in research with H.O.M.E research since early 2018. With such interest, he is involving himself into haptic technology projects within H.O.M.E lab. Currently he is looking forward to venture into deeper UAV and mechatronics knowledge to widen his range of knowledge.
