Overview

The Asian Tourism and Hospitality Research Network (ATHRN) represents a group of scholars and institutions with a shared interest in research, teaching in higher education and industry engagement, and is aimed at advancing the understanding of tourism, hospitality and events in Asia. The network has a broad thematic research and activities focus, reflecting the diversity of research and importance of teaching and practice within our fields. Research themes focus on discourses, practices, planning directives and implications for sustainable tourism and the hospitality and service sector industries, and further examine tourism and leisure mobilities and immobilities in the Asian context.

The network activities include to bring together researchers from different universities across Asia working on tourism, hospitality, events and culinary management, formulate joint ideas and research projects, collaborate for publications, organize research-focused events such as workshops, international research seminars, and conferences, and facilitate virtual exchange and global classrooms for students and academic teaching staff.

Activities and News

The objectives of the network are to:

  1. bring together researchers from different universities across Asia working on tourism, hospitality, events and culinary management,
  2. formulate joint research projects and funding proposal among network members,
  3. jointly write and submit Scopus Q1/Q2 research manuscripts,
  4. organize research-focused events at Sunway University, such as workshops, international research seminar series, and conferences,
  5. facilitate virtual exchange and global classrooms for students and academic teaching staff and (6) create a database for postgraduate examiners and research-related reviewers.
