Biography

Dr Tan Sang Loon graduated with a PhD degree on the synthesis, characterisation, cytotoxicity and structure-activity relationship of chiral Schiff bases, derived from dithiocarbazates and their metal complexes. He acquired considerable knowledge and experience in several subject areas while conducting his studies, including organic and inorganic synthesis, coordination chemistry, chiral chemistry, spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, computational quantum chemistry, quantitative structure-activity relationship as well as basic cell culture technique. Upon graduation, he gained greater exposure through continuous study in the computational quantum chemistry of dithiocarbazate Schiff bases and their metal complexes, as well as through other exploratory research projects by applying those compounds as homogeneous catalyst and potential anti dengue viral agents. Currently, his research focus is converged on the design of new functional materials through metal-organic frameworks as well as the improvement of drug bioavailability via the cocrystallisation approach.
