Biography

Azmyl Yusof (more popularly known by his stage name 'Azmyl Yunor') is a renowned Malaysian bi-lingual independent singer-songwriter, musician, radio host, and writer who has performed in countries around the region since the late 1990s. He has published his research on the cultural politics of Malaysian music subcultures and mediated moral panics, and is currently researching on contemporary protest songs in Malaysia. Since 1997, he has released nine albums and three Extended Plays (EP) as a solo artiste and also albums with his other band projects. He is the host of BFM89.9's alternative-country music show, Twang, and is one of the Music Category judges for Kakiseni's annual Boh Cameronian Arts Awards. Besides, he is a 2013 inductee of the Voice International Music Awards (VIMA) Hall of Fame and was awarded the Balls of Steel Award by Clive magazine in 2012 for his unwavering independent creative spirit and vision. An award-winning musical theatre entitled 'Something I Wrote' was staged in 2013 to much acclaim, making him the only local artiste other than P. Ramlee to have a musical theatre performance to be based on their life and songs.
