Sunway University was honoured to be able to host partners from almost thirty international institutions for its inaugural Global Partners Day on 10 November 2023. The aim of the Partners Day was to foster a sense of unity among partners, providing a platform for networking, knowledge exchange, and the exploration of potential collaborations in the realms of research and education.

The Partners Day started off with a Welcome Remark and Introduction to Sunway University by Professor Sibrandes Poppema, President of Sunway University. Partners were given insights into the university's recent developments but also offered a visionary glimpse into its future trajectory over the coming years.

To keep the momentum going, Professor Abhi Veerakumarasivam, Provost of Sunway University, assumed the role of facilitator in gathering partners together and setting the stage for engaging discussions. Partners were encouraged to share brief introductions about their institutions on stage, effectively breaking the ice and creating an atmosphere conducive to fruitful conversations.

Partners were also treated to a delightful meal at Athanor, the University’s very own restaurant, managed by the School of Hospitality and Service Management. The highlight was the ‘pandan panna cotta’, which had left an indelible impression among most partners who savoured this delicacy.

Partners were also given an immersive tour of the campus by our Deans and Associate Deans (International) after the meal to give them a preview of the various facilities available to staff and students of the university. This showcased the state-of-the-art facilities available to staff and students, providing a firsthand look at the university's commitment to excellence.

Before the day came to an end, all partners were invited on stage to share the salient points from their earlier discussions. This interactive session served as a testament to the vibrant exchange of ideas and the tangible groundwork laid for future initiatives in research and education.

The intensive one-day event ended with some closing remarks by Professor Sibrandes Poppema, thanking all partners for their time and support in making this Global Partners Day a resounding success. He extended a warm invitation for a reunion at Sunway University during the Times Higher Education Event (Asia Universities Summit) scheduled for April 2024, underscoring the university's commitment to sustained collaboration and academic excellence.
