Sunway University and Carsome Academy officiated their partnership to co-develop soft skill modules for the automotive as well as Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) for Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) programmes.

The partnership aims to develop automotive talent through equipping them to be industry ready with critical soft skills and training.

Both groups will culminate in an online curriculum to enhance employability of Carsome Academy’s TVET graduates.

Carsome co-founder and its academy’s CEO Teoh Jiun Ee said students cannot depend on technical skills alone to succeed in future careers.

“They must work with others to solve problems, develop new services and achieve organisational goals,” he said during the announcement of the partnership on Tuesday.

He added that the programme will drive up their chances for successful job placement and productivity to drive Malaysia’s economy.

The curriculum comprises soft skill modules, namely Basic and Intermediate English; Basic Concepts of Information Technology Communication Skills; Principles of Management as well as Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills.

It will be delivered by Carsome Academy both online and physical classes.

“We will evaluate the students within one year. It will be 30% classroom and 70% practical.

“Once they finished the 30% classroom, they will go into industry training for example through the Carsome centre,” Teoh added.

Meanwhile, Sunway University president Professor Sibrandes Poppema said the collaboration is in line with the government’s calls to improve the value of TVET graduates in Malaysia.

“Our focus is on holistic education. It is about knowledge and skills which include communication, digital skills and leadership skills and values,” he said.

Recently, Carsome Academy together with the Selangor government announced scholarships to students who are successfully admitted to the institution.

The Biasiswa TVET Selangor Untuk Pelajar Carsome Academy 2023 is offered to Malaysian youth aged between 18 and 40 years old who are born in Selangor.

It is also open to residents of the state who have lived there over the past five years.

The scholarship will be available for 30 deserving students accepted into Carsome Academy in 2023.
