Sunway University Research Assistants are the Winners of WWF Malaysia Eco Champion Award 2022

Congratulations to our research assistants Chia Dane and Lein Li Lin under Dr Jane Gew's supervision at the Department of Biological Sciences!

They are one of the winners of WWF Malaysia Eco Champion Award 2022! They were awarded a RM5000 seed grant for a community project entitled "Food waste segregation and management" which is aligned to this year’s theme on "Pathways toward Net Zero Emissions". This project aims to take Malaysia one step closer to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12, target 12.4, which calls for a half reduction in per capita global food waste, through segregating, measuring, and composting household food waste. This project is a part of the waste management project initiated by Sunway Materials Smart Science and Engineering Cluster. The Eco Champion Awards by WWF Malaysia aims to celebrate inspiring future sustainability leaders for their outstanding commitment to conserving the natural environment. The winners are awarded a seed grant to make an impact in their communities and beyond.

We would also like to thank WWF-Malaysia and Sunway University for their support in this project initiative.
