In the recently released Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2022, Sunway University has climbed up to band 301 – 400 out of 1406 institutions ranked globally. This is a move up from its previous band (401 – 600) in the 2021 edition of the same ranking.

Aside from the overall ranking, Sunway University is now in the world’s top 200 for:

  • SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation (101 – 200)
  • SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth (101 – 200)
  • SDG 17 – Partnership for the Goals (101 – 200)

Additionally, Sunway University ranked in SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy (201 – 300); SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities (201 – 300) and SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being (601 – 800).

Among the Malaysian Institutions ranked, Sunway University is the highest-ranked Malaysian private university for two consecutive years.

THE Impact Rankings is currently the world’s only ranking measuring universities’ contributions to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and assesses university commitment to sustainability across four broad areas: research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching. Progress is measured for each of the individual 17 SDGs, as well as across the goals as a whole.

A record 1,524 institutions from 110 countries/regions have participated across the rankings this year, a 23% increase since last year, reflecting the growing importance of the SDGs within higher education institutions globally.
