Field Trip to Port Dickson– Incentive Tours Management with the Students from Diploma in Events

The second year Diploma in Events Management students worked tirelessly for the production of an incentive travel and tour. Incentive Tours Management is a programme-specific module, led by lecturer Ms Ng Siew Cheng. This module focuses on the fundamentals and concepts of incentive travel, where students are later required to execute an incentive tours operation. At this recent semester, a total of 26 students together with the module lecturer put together a tour to Port Dickson.

This subject covers a balanced combination of theoretical foundation such as important terminologies and designing an effective incentive tour based on client needs. Whereas practical components focus on the planning, organising and execution of operational activities for this tour equipped students with first-hand experiential learning in coordinating a tour activity.

The tour kick-started with a customised indoor and outdoor team building activity, aimed to enhance teamwork and communication through upbeat and energetic games. A 'Tropical Night' themed gala dinner is also organised, with fun activities and performances. Being students of a campus with a conscience, students also cleaned up the beach as part of their social responsibility activity to educate the public to be responsible tourists.

Ms Ng Siew Cheng also highlighted that “This is the first incentive trip after the travel restrictions are lifted. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought significant challenges to the global travel industry. Here at Sunway University, we incorporate hands-on learning experience but at the same time putting in place the necessary health and safety protocols as part of our teaching strategy in this subject. I am glad to see students were able to adopt to the new norm of travel and made the required arrangements to ensure that the tour activity is running smooth.”
