Sunway University president Prof Sibrandes Poppema shares, “We emphasise on delivering a holistic education that includes knowledge and smart skills, including digital and communication skills, values and mindset as well as employability.”

We are an organisation focusing on sustainable development and planetary health, entrepreneurship and employability, which we find are important elements in education.

“Recently Sunway University at Sunway City Kuala Lumpur also became the official home of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN SDSN) headquarters for Asia, alongside Paris for Europe and New York representing the Americas.”

He adds, “What we are doing is instilling in our students the things a workplace needs - quality education, knowledge, communication and digital skills. In terms of value for money, students get the best possible education for the money they pay.

“To help them achieve their future and career goals, our students get career preparation courses in Years 1,2 and 3. As a result, we are also No.1 for graduate employment according to Talent Bank.”

He added that students at Sunway University can expect to learn from quality, supportive world-class teachers – top scientists among them, to receive top-notch value-for-money education.

“You can expect a high quality education recognised and quality controlled by the Malaysian and UK government that culminates in two degrees from Sunway University and Lancaster University at a cost that is less than one-third of going abroad,” says Prof Poppema.

One of the awards – No. 1 Private University Times Higher Impact Rankings (TIMES), 2021 reflects the quality of the university’s quality of education and research.

Sunway University is the only private university to be honoured with this award. It is also the first non-government linked private Malaysian university to attain Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) Accreditation, 2023, which all business schools worldwide aspire to.

To constantly ensure its syllabus and courses are always up to industry standards, Sunway University has industry panels that advise on programmes.

It also frequently holds lectures and other interactions with industry to make the programmes relevant.

To date, it has recorded 300 companies coming to campus and a total of 4000 companies in its internship portal, which opens opportunities for students to get valuable first-hand experience even before they graduates.

“Our interactions with top institutions overseas, such as Harvard, MIT, Oxford and Cambridge also open up opportunities for collaborations in research as well as other facilitate knowledge exchange to constantly enrich each other’s research projects.

“In fact, we are one of the very best private universities in Southeast Asia and one of the leading universities worldwide when it comes to research,” Prof Sibrandes adds.

In addition to education, students also enjoy an active student life on campus, which has been branded “The Most Happening Campus”.

“There are many activities organised on campus and I must say, this is by far the most vibrant campus I’ve ever seen,” says Prof Sibrandes.

He shares some of the things Sunway University alumni have said about their alma mater, “Many of our alumni appreciate the relevance of their programmes to their work experience as well as the leadership opportunities through student life. Most also express an appreciation of the focus on sustainability that is very relevant for the companies where they work.”
