Sunway University Maintains a Steady Climb up the QS World University Rankings 2022 League Tables

In the QS World University Rankings 2022 released recently, a total of 1,300 universities located in 97 locations globally were surveyed, including 22 Malaysian universities. In spite of the global pandemic affecting many aspects of university operations globally, Sunway University managed to move out of the #701-750 bracket and steadily climb up the rankings securing a place within the #651 – 700 band.

The reason for this success is because Sunway University is committed to steady and sustainable growth having made significant investments over the past few years to improve the quality of education through world-class research-led teaching.

The pandemic and lockdown, did not deter the University from engaging and collaborating with academics globally on virtual platforms. Sunway academics continue to impart their knowledge and expertise though webinars and virtual conferences which have seen greater participation during cross border travel restrictions. Additionally, they have not only been collaborating with counterparts from other countries to work on regional and global challenges, but also with local industries to work on national priority areas. As such, the University’s research output and citations continue to increase from year to year. All this has helped Sunway University build and grow its network which in turn continues to enhance its reputation.

On the Employer front, the University continues to facilitate virtual activities and events that benefit both employers and students alike such as virtual career fairs and industry talks. Employers are provided with monthly updates on university happenings and feedback is sought on all internship programmes offered. In addition, the University faculty continues to meet with various industry advisory boards to ensure curriculum within the programmes remain relevant.

Sunway University will continue to further strengthen its education and research by leveraging on interdisciplinary collaboration and focusing more on world class, outstanding, and winnable (WOW) projects supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) and The Malaysian Science, Technology, Innovation and Economy (MySTIE). As it stands, the University has already embarked on a number of collaborative projects with international partners such as Cambridge on Infectious Diseases, Lancaster on Sustainable Cities, Harvard on Planetary and Global Health, and MIT on Carbon Capture and Utilisation.

Sunway University will soon be offering programmes in Engineering and will begin a Medical School in the near future.

All of these initiatives is testimony to Sunway’s commitment to quality education which will further strengthen Sunway’s position globally.
