The School of Hospitality Succeeds in the ‘Business & Major Events Challenge’

This annual event is organised by the Business & Major Events Academic Council (BMEAC), under the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB). Event management students from universities and colleges around Malaysia compete in the form of a bid proposal of a business event.

The proposal requires a thorough plan with the event’s theme, venue, marketing, costing and content highlighted. The event given this year was for an international exhibition. Bids are presented before a panel of distinctive judges from the events industry in Malaysia.

BCEM's Isabell Voo Yee Sah, BIHM's Thi Yein Soe, Nicole Cara How Jin Mae and Tan Xiao Han won a trip to attend the AFECA's conference, representing Malaysia to compete at Asia level.

The challenge was held during the Future Leaders Day 2018 event. The School of Hospitality sent two teams to participate and both were successful. The winning Sunway team represents students from both the BSc (Hons) in Hospitality Management and BSc in Conventions & Events Management. As a consequence of their victory, they are now able to represent Malaysia to compete at the Asian level in the Asian Federation of Exhibition and Convention Associations (AFECA) conference, held in an Asian city each year. The second Sunway team, that came third in the event, were students from the School’s Diploma in Events Management and BSc in Conventions & Events Management. They will attend the 4th Malaysia Business Events Week 2018 (MBEW) on 12 – 14 Aug, 2018 at Genting Highlands.

DEMT’s Par Mei Gee, How Zi Ying, Ho Tze Yin and BCEM’s Ong Si Jing won 3rd place in the challenge and they will be attending the Malaysia Business Events Week which will be held in Genting Highlands.
