SDG Webinar Series: Spurring Malaysia's Economic Recovery to End Malnutrition

  This event has passed.

17th August, 2021 | 2.30PM-4.00PM GMT+8 | Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Malaysia has done extremely well in improving its well-being over the past few decades, including extending life expectancy and improving infant and child mortality rates. As Malaysia progresses to becoming a developed nation, it is facing the threat of a malnutrition double burden, especially among children. This has prompted the Government to implement various initiatives to promote healthier lifestyles among all Malaysians. However, COVID-19 has exacerbated the challenges towards ensuring better nutritional outcomes and has further curtailed the delivery and implementation of various initiatives that were in place to address malnutrition. Malaysia’s food security was put to the test as the pandemic disrupted the supply chain resulting in incidences of food shortage and food price increase.

In an effort to reaffirm the Government’s commitment to successfully implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister’s Department (EPU), together with the Jeffrey Sachs Centre on Sustainable Development (JSC) and Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Malaysia, is organising a webinar to discuss the achievement and progress made by Malaysia on Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger. This includes policy measures by the Government and initiatives undertaken by the private sector and civil society organisations to address malnutrition. The discussion will also cover the food security condition in Malaysia and ways to build a sustainable food system.
