The Sunway Business School, Sunway University proudly organizes the 2/2024 Research Seminar presented by Professor Catheryn Khoo, Business and Hospitality, Torrens University Australia, which will be held on Wednesday, 06 March 2024 at 2.00 pm at Lecture Theatre 3, Sunway University Building, UG Level.

Speaker’s Profile

Shortly after being promoted to Associate Professor, Catheryn Khoo considered quitting academia. In working through her long and messy decision-making process, she found a way to be the academic she wants, rather than the academic the system wants her to be. She is now #thetourismprofessor at Torrens University Australia, and author of “Joyful Scholarship”. She also happens to be Editor-in-Chief of a Tier 1 journal, Consultant to the UN, Travel Weekly’s Sustainable Practices Champion, one of the Top 1% World Scientists in Leisure & Tourism in 2023 by Stanford University, Special Advisor to World Women Tourism and founder of www.thefirstclass.co. She is also a mother to three, a vanlifer, and an eternal explorer. She would love to connect through LinkedIn.

Synopsis

Presentation Title: Joyful Productivity for Academics : A Very Bold Seminar

In an era where academia is increasingly characterized by unrelenting demands, further fueled by the neoliberalization of higher institutions and the stark detachment brought on by the post pandemic contactless technology, a profound transformation has been quietly unfolding.  What were once collegial circles now seem like fleeting interactions, where students become mere statistics for administrators, and academics burdened by mounting workloads and publication demands, often resemble weary souls drifting from one paycheck to the next publication.

Based on the book, “Joyful Scholarship” by Professor Catheryn Khoo, this seminar teaches academics how to breeze through tasks that once felt overwhelming, by leveraging the 3 biggest aspects that have the most significant influence on productivity – mind, body, and spirit-soul.

*The book is available on amazon.com for USD22.95, approximately RM100. On the day of the seminar however, the books will be made available for individual purchase at a discounted price.
