The Sunway University Postgraduate Student Council (PGSC) is a student body that represents the postgraduate students at Sunway University. Serving as a bridge between postgraduate students and university administration and faculty, PGSCS strives to improve postgraduate experience at Sunway University.

PGSC
a. President

The President oversees the functioning of PGSC and ensures that all initiatives and events align with PGSC’s purpose. The President also represents PGSC as the main liaison with Sunway University’s upper management. 

b. Vice President (Postgraduate Research Programmes)

The Vice President (Research Programmes) supports the President in overseeing PGSC’s activities, while taking into account the interests of postgraduate research students.

c. Vice President (Postgraduate Taught and Online Distance Learning Programmes)

The Vice President (Postgraduate Taught and Online Distance Learning Programmes) supports the President in overseeing PGSC’s activities, while taking into account the interests of postgraduate students undertaking taught and online distance learning programmes.

d. Secretary 

The Secretary handles all administrative tasks, including preparing and ensuring proper record of documentation, correspondence with external parties, and assisting the President in arranging and coordinating meetings and other internal activities.

e. Director of Student Welfare and Inclusivity

The Director of Student Welfare and Inclusivity directs intiatives and events that ensures student well-being, inclusivity, and equity. The Director of Student Welfare and Inclusivity also addresses facilities and infrastructure concerns.

f. Director of Public Relations

The Director of Public Relations coordinates publicity, marketing, and awareness campaigns for events organized by PGSC.

THE RESPECT Campaign

Sunway University Student Council, Sunway College Student Council, and Postgraduate Student Council aim to coordinate THE RESPECT Campaign with the management to celebrate the diversity and inclusivity within the student community. With a growing population of international students, it becomes increasingly crucial to recognize the importance of cultural diversity among the student body.

To start off the campaign, we introduce RESPECT: Background. An interactive activity aimed at tackling the issue of exclusion through raising awareness about privilege among Sunway students.

In this event, postgraduates had the opportunity to engage directly with representatives from Sunway University’s upper management to discuss matters concerning our postgraduate students. We are grateful to have Prof. Abhimanyu Veerakumarasivam, Provost of Sunway University, Prof. Chai Lay Ching, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education), and Prof. Mahendhiran Nair, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research Engagement & Impact) to lend their listening ears during the panel discussion and provide us with their feedback on the issues raised by the students. It was a fruitful session and we hope to have more events of a similar nature in the future.
