With eight targets to take action and make a change, SDG 6 focuses on the management of water as a finite resource. This goal is to ensure, water is managed efficiently and water security is present in all communities, but especially those in developing countries. Water should be clean and free for all walks of life through efficient management of the supply.
Research
Water Security from South Quay Lake
The University is involved in a project to provide expertise to a local development corporation that sought to investigate the health of the Sunway South Quay (SSQ) Lake. Currently, all Sunway’s managed properties in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur are piped to the water treatment plant, ensuring a continuous water supply even during a water cut.

SDG Library Exhibition
The University hosts a yearly public SDG Exhibition at the University library. SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation in particular has our University working on water regulations throughout the building, focused research on accessible and clean water for our campus community as well as for the marginalised public community, and many more. All this information is available for students to learn more about what the University is doing in regards to SDG 6.
University Operations
Rainwater Harvesting System
The Sunway University rainwater harvesting system was installed in 2015. The rainwater harvesting tank has a storage capacity of 67.5m^3 of water. The harvested rainwater is used for non-potable usage irrigation of campus vegetation.
In 2018, another rainwater harvesting system was installed at the Graduate Centre, and by 2022 the University saved 584 cubic metres of water by reusing harvested rainwater for non-potable purposes.
