Professor Graeme Wilkinson is Tan Sri Sir Jeffrey Cheah Distinguished Professor and Adviser to the President. He was formerly the Vice-Chancellor of the University for ten years from 2012 until 2022. He is from the UK and is a physics graduate of Imperial College London and holds a doctorate from Oxford University. He has worked in management consulting and was formerly an environmental remote sensing specialist with the European Commission in Italy. He held senior management positions in three UK universities before coming to Malaysia.

He has authored, co-authored and co-edited over 100 academic publications, including books on information technology and the application of advanced computing techniques such as Fundamentals of Information Technology, Neurocomputation in Remote Sensing Data Analysis, and Machine Vision and Advanced Image Processing in Remote Sensing. He also formerly served on the editorial boards of several international academic journals, including The International Journal of Geographical Information Systems, The Journal of Geographical Systems, IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, and SPIE Applied Remote Sensing.

Professor Wilkinson now undertakes research on technology and society issues, and on higher education quality and policy. He has two written books for higher education staff, namely Getting Promoted in Academia and Managing Effectively in Academia, both published by Sunway University Press. He also has keen interests in the visual arts and has co-authored a book on a Malaysian painter (Colours of Malaysia: The Art of Amirudin Ariffin) which was selected as one of the fifty best books for international rights by the National Book Council of Malaysia. He also writes regularly for the media on higher education, technology, and society topics. He is a Fellow of the British Computer Society and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
