Biography

Ravinder completed her PhD in University Malaya, studying endangered hornbills and their breeding behaviour in Kinabatangan, Borneo for over six years. She and her team grow hornbill preferred food plants, restore dilapidated nest cavities of hornbills and custom make artificial nest boxes with NGO HUTAN/KOCP and the support of international zoos; Chester Zoo, Beauval Zoo, and Phoenix Zoo. Recently, the team received international recognition; the Marsh Christian Award 2020 and the Future Conservationist Leadership Award 2017 for their work with endangered hornbills and artificial nest boxes. The artificial nest boxes are being developed to address the loss of suitable natural cavities that usually form in old growth trees. Hence, the main purpose of the project is to provide breeding opportunities for endangered hornbills.
