Commitment to SDGs

SDGs at Sunway University

The sustainability initiatives of Sunway University predate the adoption of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015.

This 3rd Sustainable Development Goal (SDG3) aims at globally improving everyone’s health and well-being in the world, no matter their level of income, age, race, gender etc. According to the UN, despite significant strides made in increasing global life expectancy, inequalities in healthcare access still exist.

Clean Water and Sanitation

This SDG focuses on ensuring a clean and stable water supply and effective water sanitation for all people by the year 2030. The goal is a reaction to the fact that many people throughout the world lack these basic services. Read more ›

Affordable and Clean Energy

The world is making progress towards Goal 7, with encouraging signs that energy is becoming more sustainable and widely available. Access to electricity in poorer countries has begun to accelerate, energy efficiency continues to improve, and renewable energy is making impressive gains in the electricity sector.

Decent Work and Economic Growth

The SDGs promote sustained economic growth, higher levels of productivity and technological innovation. Encouraging entrepreneurship and job creation are key to this, as are effective measures to eradicate forced labour, slavery and human trafficking. With these targets in mind, the goal is to achieve full and productive employment, and decent work, for all women and men by 2030. Read more ›

Sustainable Cities and Communities

Making cities sustainable means creating career and business opportunities, safe and affordable housing, and building resilient societies and economies. It involves investment in public transport, creating green public spaces, and improving urban planning and management in participatory and inclusive ways.

Partners for the Goals

The SDGs can only be realized with strong global partnerships and cooperation.The world is more interconnected than ever. Improving access to technology and knowledge is an important way to share ideas and foster innovation. Coordinating policies to help developing countries manage their debt, as well as promoting investment for the least developed, is vital for sustainable growth and development.

WhatSUP with Psychology '22 - It’s a Wrap!

Sunway University Press (SUP) is proud to announce the successful conclusion of our collaboration with Sunway University’s Department of Psychology, WhatSUP with Psychology ’22—a series of virtual forums about emotions, relationships, and growing up held between February and March 2022, featuring renowned psychologists from both practice and academia.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Education for All at Sunway Education Group

To become globally connected, forward-looking education institutions dedicated to sustainability, the Campus With A Conscience Committee of Sunway Education Group has successfully developed and launched an online SDG Education Course campus-wide in partnership with the SDG Academy, as one of its initiatives to drive sustainability efforts in the SEG in January 2022.

As part of the strategic direction for the Australian Matriculation programme (AUSMAT) in 2022, a staff development training was conducted by Mr Jason Soh and Dr Sally, who are both academic colleagues in the AUSMAT programme, from November 2021 - January 2022 in phases to identify the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the AUSMAT subjects’ curriculum.

Rethinking Food Waste: Transforming Edible Waste into New Dishes

Inspired by Sunway University’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and Worldchefs’ Feed the Planet initiatives, the Sunway University Young Chefs recently published a digital cookbook transforming edible food waste into new dishes. The cookbook features over 30 beautifully illustrated dishes and beverages developed by students and alumna of the culinary programme of Sunway University.
