Stressless Sunway Campaign 2023

by Department of Communication Year 2 Students

In the hustle and bustle of campus life, getting caught up in the whirlwind of assignments, exams, and social obligations is easy. Recognizing the importance of mental well-being, the year two students of the Department of Communication organised the “Stressless Sunway” Campaign for two weeks.

This campaign aimed to provide a serene sanctuary for students, offering myriad activities designed to help them unwind, de-stress, and rejuvenate their minds. From enlightening workshops to thrilling game nights and creative endeavors, the campaign was a holistic approach to promoting relaxation.

The Stressless Sunway Campaign started with a workshop to equip students with practical tools to manage stress. Experts from various fields, including psychology shared valuable insights. The workshop covered mindfulness meditation, effective study techniques, and stress-relief exercises. Students enthusiastically participated, gaining valuable skills to help them cope with the challenges of college life.

The Stressless Sunway Campaign also featured creative corners where students could unleash their artistic talents. From painting and pottery to poetry and music, these interactive sessions provided an outlet for self-expression. The soothing ambiance and the opportunity to create something beautiful from scratch allowed students to channel their stress into artistic masterpieces, resulting in a sense of accomplishment and tranquility.

The 'Mind Matters Expo' on July 17th and 18th welcomed NGOs, showcasing valuable resources to support students in managing their mental well-being. It emphasised the significance of seeking professional help when necessary.

SDG Poster Exhibition

by Department of Communication Year 3 Students

In an era defined by global challenges, it’s imperative that the youth, our future leaders, are aware of these issues and actively engaged in finding solutions. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations are a blueprint for a better future, addressing issues from poverty and inequality to climate change and environmental degradation. DOC year 3 students proudly organised an SDGs exhibition to inspire and empower students, providing a platform to explore, understand, and engage with these critical global goals.

The exhibition also served as a platform for innovation. DOC students were encouraged to brainstorm and present creative solutions to local and global challenges aligned with the SDGs. These innovative ideas ranged from sustainable energy solutions and eco-friendly initiatives to community development projects, reflecting the students' dedication to finding practical, impactful solutions.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that lasts throughout an individual's life. It is identified in early childhood and is characterised by persistent impairments in social interaction and communication, as well as restricted and repetitive patterns of behaviour, interests, and activities (American Psychiatric Association, 2014, as cited in Asahar et al., 2021). Children with ASD often face challenges in communication, social interaction, and behaviour. While there is no known cure for autism, early intervention and support can make a significant difference in their development and quality of life.

To raise awareness and support for children affected by ASD which is also part of fulfilling the SDG goals, the Department of Communication Events Managements subject lecturer, Mr. Srikumar Ramayan, and his students organised an extravaganza Y2K-themed concert named: RAWK 2.0 COMMCERT with its tagline “Embracing YOUniqueness”. The concert staged performances from various genres and the most highlighted ones is the choir singing by the NASOM Maestro.  This event was also a collaborative effort with the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM). As a result, the concert managed to raise a fund worth RM 6600.

The RAWK 2.0 Commcert closure was done through a Handprint Pledge event. This event was organised by Mr Srikumar and his Events Management students in conjunction with the Art Beats International Festival of Art, Film, Music, and Theatre. The RAWK 2.0 team hosted another colourful event on the 18th of August 2023, Friday from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm at the corridors of Lecture Theatres 7 and 8, Level 1, Sunway University Building. A very unique event that gathered many campus communities to put their hands together to embrace YOUniqueness.
