Research Overview

The research expertise of the School of Science and Technology is well-recognised internationally as our academics currently serve on international grant review boards and as journal editors and editorial board members of major scientific journals.

In 2016 and 2017, our research groups attracted over RM480,000 in external research grants, including Lancaster University Travel Grants and Industrial Projects, and obtained more than RM800,000 in internal research grants from Sunway University. We have published over 200 papers in high-indexed journals and more than 90 conference papers.

Our academics have also won several research awards such as 10 Silvers at ITEX as well as Best Paper and Best Oral Presentation at conferences. Some notable mentions include Distinguished Professor Naveed Khan and Professor Ruqaiyyah Bano Siddiqui from the Department of Biological Sciences, who achieved the Excellence Award, Gold Medal and Bronze Medal at Pharma+Bio Asia as well as the Order of Merit Award and Thomas Edison Grand Award at the Korea Inventor Award Festival in recognition of their outstanding research work in biological sciences. Together, they have also published a book entitled Brain-eating Amoebae: Biology and Pathogenesis of Naegleria fowleri.
