Grants & Funding Opportunities


  1. FRGS, TRGS and PRGS
    Annual grants awarded by the Malaysian Ministry of Education. Registration is required on the MyGRANTS web portal.

  2. MOSTI Funds
    Grants awarded by the Malaysian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. As of 2017, two flagship funding initiatives exist: SMART Challenge Fund and GO-Fund (InnoFund). Registration is required on the Edana System web portal.

  3. Malaysian Toray Science Foundation
    Each year, 10 to 15 grants of up to RM 60,000 each are awarded to Malaysian researchers below 40 years of age pursuing basic research in science and technology (limited to the fields of natural sciences including the environment, but excluding clinical medicine and mathematics).

  4. L'Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science National Fellowship
    Three annual grants of up to RM 30,000 each are awarded to female Malaysians below 40 years of age pursuing research in any scientific field.

  5. MCMC Funds
    The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) currently offers grants under the Networked Media Research Collaboration Programme and the Fullbright-MCMC Grants initiative.

  6. MAKNA (Malaysian National Cancer Council)
    MAKNA offers two initiatives — MAKNA Cancer Research Collaboration programme or the MAKNA Cancer Research Award — for funding in cancer research.

  7. Newton-Ungku Omar Fund (NUOF)
    NUOF is a partnership between the United Kingdom and Malaysia in providing grants for collaborative scientific research and innovation projects. To apply for grants under the Institutional Links programme, interested applicants must work with a collaborating institution based in the United Kingdom.
