Welcome to the School of Hospitality! Formed in 1998, the School has a significant history in the provision of hospitality-related studies. For its quality teaching and learning in the hospitality field, the School has been awarded a 5-Star (Excellent) rating for its programmes in the D-SETARA 2012, a Discipline-Based Rating System developed by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

The School provides high quality education and training in the hospitality, culinary and events related industries. Crucially, Sunway University has a strong partnership with Le Cordon Bleu, which means that our degree and diploma programmes in the fields of culinary arts and hospitality management are certified as meeting the very high standards stipulated by Le Cordon Bleu. The School is very proud of this association as Le Cordon Bleu is highly valued in the culinary arts and hospitality education.

With two decades of scholarly achievements, the School provides students with a holistic approach to learning. The School delivers innovative teaching approaches which are at the forefront of hospitality training and education. Our programmes encompass a diverse range of courses that incorporate a special focus on practical and industry-based applications. The objective is to entrench business management practices and principles into the subjects, encouraging students to pursue sustainable careers in the service sector industries. It is the School’s aspiration to encourage students to be future leaders and decision makers in the industry. 

Given the ever-changing nature of the hospitality industries, the School’s degree and diploma programmes continually embrace new trends, developments, technologies and learning practices. The key intention is to equip students with key skills and core competencies necessary to work in hospitality and service sector-related industries. In addition to academic and theoretical content, there is a significant focus on experiential learning and forms of training that are pertinent to the industrial setting. The School has a close relationship with industry where students gain direct work experience during their programmes. This encourages a strong transition from university to industry, emphasising a commitment to professional practices.

The School offers a dynamic, vibrant and motivated teaching and learning environment with committed staff that have substantial industry experience, high-level teaching abilities and academic strength. In addition to various forms of classroom learning, significant emphasis is also placed on industry engagement and training, site visits and case studies, regional and domestic field trips, as well as other relevant industry activities.

The School’s objective is to nurture all-round individuals who will be able to contribute to the advancement and betterment of the hospitality industry within the region. Given our strong reputation in teaching, learning and professional practice, it is our vision to be a leading hospitality school within the South East Asia region.
