HOW DO YOU CLASSIFY LOCAL AND FOREIGN PARTICIPANTS?

Classification is based on the citizenship one holds.

CAN I OBTAIN REFUND OF THE REGISTRATION FEE IF I AM UNABLE TO ATTEND THE EVENT?

Once registration fee is paid, it is non-refundable nor transferable.

ABOUT MALAYSIA

 

CURRENCY

The Malaysian currency is denoted in Ringgit Malaysia (RM or MYR). Notes are available in RM1, RM5, RM20, RM50, and RM100 denominations; while coins are issued in 5, 10, 20, and 50 sen (cents) denominations.

CLIMATE

The country experiences tropical weather all year-round, with temperatures ranging from 21ºC (70ºF) to 32ºC (90ºF). Expect rain showers during the wet season from April to October on the West Coast and from November to February on the East Coast of the Peninsula.

CULTURE & LANGUAGE

The Malays comprise 57% of the population, while the Chinese, Indians, and other races make up the rest of Malaysia's diverse population. While Malaysian Malay is the national language, the many ethnic groups also converse in various languages and dialects such as Cantonese and Mandarin for Chinese, and Hindi, Tamil, and Urdu for Indians, while English is also widely spoken among the population of 32 million (2018 estimate). Islam is the official religion, while other religions such as Buddhism and Christianity are also widely and freely practiced.

Time: Eight hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

ELECTRICITY

Standard voltage is 220 - 240 Volts AC at 50 cycles per second. Malaysia uses standard 3-pin square plugs and sockets.

WEIGHT & MEASUREMENT

Malaysia follows the Imperial metric system for weight and measurement, as commonly practiced in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS

Local calls can be made from public phones using coins or prepaid cards. International calls can also be made using phone cards or at any Telekom office. 
The GSM frequency band is GSM 1800. WiFi connection is available throughout Sunway Resort City, although we recommend purchasing a local prepaid card or SIM card for short to medium-length stays, should you wish to travel further.

 

ACCESSIBILITIES

 

MODE OF TRANSPORTATION

Several transport options are available based on the visitor’s convenience. The nearest BRT stations are at Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway Lagoon, and Monash University. The closest LRT station is at Setia Jaya. For directions, please check the google maps https://goo.gl/maps/bkz1k1zBo5r

FREE SHUTTLE BUS SERVICE

The free shuttle runs every 25 minutes (subject to traffic conditions) between 0700 and 2130 hours daily around Sunway City - Pyramid Tower Hotel, Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, Sunway Metro (Bus Stop), Sunway Lagoon (BRT Station), Monash Residence, Monash University Malaysia, Sunway Medical Centre, and Lagoon Club.

PARKING

Paid parking is available at Sunway Medical Centre Car Park, Eastern Car Park Monash Malaysia, Sunway Geo, Sunway Pyramid shopping mall. Visitors parking at Sunway Pyramid and Monash parking lots can access the Canopy Walk which takes 20 minutes to reach the Sunway Medical Centre. Participants are encouraged to take public transport or park within the vicinity.

THE CANOPY WALK

This elevated, secure, one-kilometre walkway in Bandar Sunway connects our campus to the Sunway Pyramid shopping mall. It takes about 20-30 minutes to walk from the Sunway Medical Centre to Sunway Pyramid Mall. The Canopy Walk is open daily from 7am to 12 midnight (except on public holidays) and is monitored by close-circuit television cameras.
